As a clean energy expert, I can see the wave of opportunity to grow our economy with smart technology and good jobs. Clean rivers and climate-resilient farms

Clean rivers and climate-resilient farms

Salisbury and South Wiltshire is a historic place full of iconic flora, fauna and farming heritage. Let’s not dump raw sewage on it. It’ll use my clean energy and climate change policy experience to clean up the rivers, expand our green spaces, bolster our climate resilience and help our farms to flourish.

  • Clean up our rivers: Introduce independent monitoring with automatic and severe fines for illegal sewage dumping. Provide new powers for regulators to block bonuses and impose criminal charges. Put failing water companies under special measures.
  • Strengthen climate resilience: New ‘golden rules’ to ensure any development benefits both our communities and nature. I’ll also ensure Salisbury gets its fair share of Green Prosperity Plan investment in climate resilience, such as flood protections, and good clean jobs.
  • Put local farmers first: Introduce a new land-use framework, ensure land management schemes work for both farmers and nature. Build and improve supply chain infrastructure. Work with local authorities to improve flood resilience and work with farmers and scientists to eradicate Bovine TB.
  • Back British farming: Target for half of all food purchased in the public sector to be produced locally.
  • Nurture our green spaces: A commitment to protecting the green belt. Nine new River Walks and three new National Forests.

Labour has a fully-funded, fully-costed plan to deliver more appointments, increase resources such as cancer scanners, and move toward convenient local care hubs.
